Charleen was born and raised in South Africa. She excelled in track and field in High School and at University and qualified for the Olympics in the 100m, with a personal best time of 11.2 seconds and in the long jump with a distance of 6.53 m (around 22ft).
She graduated from the University of Pretoria with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy in 1991. She relocated to the United States in 1993 and passed the California PT Board exam in 1994.
Her US experience started at the Queen of Angels Hospital in LA, as the Supervisor of the out-patient department, doing wound and amputation care and treating sports, orthopedic and neurological cases.
She moved to the Thousand Oaks area in 1996 and worked at Los Robles Hospital, doing in-patient orthopedic, ICU, CCU, medical-surgical and post-natal care for 5 years. After her 3d child was born, she started working part-time in out-patient settings, evaluating and treating sports, orthopedic and work-related injuries.
Charleen keeps up with required yearly continued education classes and seminars. Her continued education also includes viewing knee, hip and shoulder joint replacement surgeries and other orthopedic surgeries in the operating room with Dr. Jaime Hernandez and Dr. Michael Bahk from SCOI, Drs Tchejeyan and Barry at Los Robles Hospital, Dr. Kevin Nadal at Conejo Surgical Center. She most recently attended a presentation by Dr. Harpreet Bawa from SCOI, explaining the benefits of using the new Mako robotic arm to assist in total knee and hip replacements.
Charleen was the specialty long jump coach for the Newbury Park track club from 2008 to 2011 when her kids were younger. She participated in the Conejo Valley Corporate Games and in several local 5k runs, winning age group medals.
